Here’s a quick and easy question… Are you married? If not, do you know anyone that is? Ok, next question… How many of those people went from the first date directly to the altar? Probably very few. Before the marriage took place, the relationship had to develop and each person had to see exactly how the union would add value to their life. When they were mutually convinced of the added value, they took the next step into marriage. This process hasn’t changed in hundreds of years.
So why then, do many network marketers try to sign up new distributors without first adding value to their prospect’s life or business? Then, when this method doesn’t work (because it rarely does), frustration sets in and they sadly declare that network marketing doesn’t work. The true reality is that network marketing works just fine, but their method of recruiting really stinks! Keep this thought in mind…
No one will join your business until they can perceive a value in it for them!
This does NOT mean that you provide value in the form of selling products. Telling someone that your product line will make them feel better is not the type of value that builds your list. Telling someone that your business can make them a bunch of money is not adding value. There are thousands of people out there who will tell your prospect exactly the same thing. So you need to be different! Show them a solution to their problem, offer it free of charge, and now you have a fighting chance.
Now, please don’t confuse a product benefit with a business benefit. If you are out there promoting the benefits of your product line, then you will sell some products. But product benefits rarely turn into successful business builders. Yes, it can and has happened, but it is an infrequent and slow process. Likewise, simply telling people how they can “Work from home” and “Quit their job” and “Have financial freedom” isn’t really a great strategy either. Everyone is out there saying that stuff and people are fairly immune to it now. They want something tangible, something that allows them to step back and really say “I can do this” and “I want to do this” and “This will benefit me” and “I want to be a part of this team”.
How to you accomplish this? Well, the best way is to have a system in place. Please, not the system where all you say is “Make a list of everyone you know”. Yes, the new distributor will eventually do this, but that can NOT be your only system in place. Too many people who would love to have a home based business will not want to build it that way, or they may not have a big warm market. You will chase those folks away with the “Make a list” method.
So what kind of system do you need? You need a system that shows people how to build a list! That’s the biggest problem most network marketers have. By having this type of system, and showing how to give it away in exchange for contact information, you solve a huge problem for your prospect and wham- just like that you have added value, built your list, and created a duplicatible process. If you currently do not have a system like this in place, then you need to make it a priority to make it happen. Leaders create solutions and solutions lead to big paychecks in any business.
